Birdskins collected by Whitehead on his 1893-1896 Philippine expedition are currently in the collection of Natural History Museum at Tring in Hertfordshire/UK. Mica Cabildo selected ten of Whitehead’s ornithological discoveries based on their current conservation status, and requested access to these specimens from the Museum. On February 20th 2020, Mica was able to see and photograph Whitehead’s birdskins at NHM Tring.
The birds selected for Whitehead’s Ark are:
· White-browed jungle flycatcher, vulnerable
· Visayan pygmy babbler, threatened
· Philippine eagle, critically endangered
· Mountain shrike, vulnerable
· Montane racquet-tail parrot, endangered
· Mindoro imperial pigeon, endangered
· Luzon water-redstart, vulnerable
· Luzon striped-babbler, vulnerable
· Luzon highlands scops-owl, vulnerable
· Golden-crowned babbler, threatened
